George AnnandaleDr. Annandale, President of Engineering and Hydrosystems Inc., has 30 years of experience as a water resource engineer. He mainly works on rivers, offering services in fluvial hydraulics, fluvial geomorphology, hydrology and hydraulics, sediment transport and river engineering. He has published approximately 100 papers and is author and contributing author to seven books on sedimentation and scour. Dr. Annandale consults nationally and internationally and has worked on projects located in the United States of America, Canada, Australia, Turkey, Switzerland, Indonesia, the Philippines, Morocco, Kalimantan, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Laos, South Africa, Israel, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and Zaire. His expertise is recognized by practicing engineers and academia and he has been called upon to review research proposals for the National Science Foundation (USA), the National Science Foundation (Switzerland), the Ministry of Universities and Research (Italy) and has acted as a research advisor at prominent universities, including the Technical University (ETH), Lausanne, Switzerland; Colorado State University, Fort Collins; and the University of Stellenbosch and the Rand Afrikaans University in South Africa. Dr. Annandale authored the book “Scour Technology”, which is published by McGraw-Hill.
He is known as the developer of the Erodibility Index Method that is used nationally and
internationally to assess scour in any earth material, including rock, cohesive and non-cohesive
earth materials, and engineered earth materials, like concrete. Dr. Annandale’s acknowledged
expertise in reservoir sedimentation management resulted in him assuming the position as technical
lead during the development of the RESCON approach to surface water reservoir management. The
RESCON approach was developed for the World Bank and focuses on identifying sustainable management
strategies for surface water resource infrastructure that are optimal from both technical and
economic points of view.
