Engineering and Hydrosystems

Jennifer Patterson

Jennifer M. Patterson is the Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist at Engineering & Hydrosystems in Littleton, Colorado. She specializes in geomorphic characterization and river restoration projects. Ms. Patterson obtained her geomorphic education through the Desert Research Institute in Reno, Nevada. She has over twelve years of experience in hydrologic studies, river restoration projects, soils inventories, and hydrogeologic characterization. She has had the opportunity to practically apply her interdisciplinary education and experience on numerous projects including stream migration characterizations, degradation/aggradation evaluations, streambank erosion and stability calculations, and the assessment of rill and gully formation. Ms. Patterson is also skilled in watershed characterization applied to the design of geomorphically stable channels, wetlands, reservoirs, retention basins, and sediment control structures. Ms. Patterson’s philosophy for river restoration is based on understanding the site-specific relationships between the controlling geomorphic variables, i.e. water and sediment, and alterations to the watershed. These site-specific relationships are used to develop economically-achievable and sustainable design solutions.
